To determine the number of extra taser batteries needed for 5 tasers at a station, it is important to consider the operational requirements and typical protocols for maintaining equipment such as tasers. Generally, it's advisable to have additional batteries to ensure that all tasers can be operational at any given time, as well as to prepare for situations where batteries may fail or become depleted.

In this scenario, if each taser requires one operational battery, it is prudent to have extra batteries on hand for emergencies or replacements. A common practice might involve keeping a set number of backup batteries—usually around 20% to 50% of the total devices in operation.

With 5 tasers, a calculation based on a reasonable requirement could yield a need for around 2 to 3 extra batteries, considering factors like downtime during battery replacement or charging. Thus, having 3 extra batteries ensures that all tasers can be simultaneously operational, accounting for any unforeseen circumstances or failures.

This rationale aligns with the answer of needing 3 extra batteries, as it adequately prepares for operational readiness and efficiency without interruption.
